Travel to Belgrade
We hope the following Q&A helps guide your search for travel to Belgrade.
If you have any tips or comments, please consider sharing them by clicking on the comments link at the bottom of this page.
How do I get to Belgrade?
For those living in the states, you'll need to fly and connect through Western Europe. Many European carriers fly to Belgrade (BEG):
Air France from Paris (CDG)
Alitalia from Milan (MXP)
British Airways from London (LHR)
Lufthansa from Franfurt/Munich (FRA/MUC)
Do I need a visa?
Citizens from the list below, which includes the US, Canada and most of the EU, do not need visas for Serbia. Generally, you'll receive a 90-day visa upon entry to the country. Click here if you need more information.
Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican, Andorra, San Marino, Israel, Cyprus, Malta, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Croatia, the United States of America, Canada, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Where should I buy my ticket?
We've had luck using kayak.com. Kayak searches other sites (airline websites, online travel agencies, etc) and allows you to purchase directly from them. If you register, you can set up a Fare Alert on Kayak to inform you, for example, when the price for tickets in July from your home city to Belgrade drops below $X amount.
Another option is Danny Travel, a Serbian travel agency based in New York that specializes in trips to Eastern Europe. You can use their search engine or call them at 1-800-565-8553 and ask to speak to Dragana or Dejan (pronounced DAY-yan). Make sure you mention that you are travelling for Shawn and Ana's wedding in Begrade.
We've also arranged for a 5% discount off the lowest published airfare from American Airlines. Under this deal, you must fly on American Airlines for at least one leg of your trip and make your connection in London on partner British Airways to Belgrade. This discount is valid for travel from Friday, July 6 through Sunday, July 22. Call American Airlines at 1-800-433-1790 and mention "Starfile number" A7577AW.
How much should I expect to pay for tickets?
Europe in July is peak season. Best case scenario - departing from an east coast city in the US directly to Western Europe - will likely cost over $1,000. We've flown together from DC to Belgrade four times and our tickets were between $950 and $1,100 each. (We prefer Air France for the connection in Paris and the tasty food!)
Is it cheaper to buy tickets sooner rather than later?
Not necessarily. As natural procrastinators, we usually wait until 3-4 weeks before our trip to buy tickets. The prices for our previous flights look similar to what we're currently seeing for July '07 flights to Belgrade. The graph below shows changes in price from NYC-BEG, as found on Kayak. Bottom line: start looking at tickets now, but don't feel rushed to purchase until you've gotten a feel for prices.

How will I get from the airport to the hotel in Belgrade?
Make sure you give us your flight arrival information so that we can arrange to have you picked up from the airport. The ride from the airport to the center of Belgrade takes about 30 minutes.
Also, you shouldn't need to rent a car for the weekend. All the activities we've planned will be in walking distance of the hotel. Plus, taxis are relatively cheap to hire for moving around the city.
